Young Adults Church - Managing conflict

conflict
Twenty three young people attended the third organised young peoples’ forum at Holy Trinity Stroud Green recently, welcoming Ms Paula Spencer, a guest speaker from Greig City Academy, kindly offering her services to facilitate the week’s topic on Conflict Resolution.

The evening was very enlightening with everyone contributing their experiences and values on how they embrace conflict resolution.

What was most interesting was the amount of true honesty and reflection everyone shared with each other. The facilitator expertly encouraged everyone to participate in pairs or in a large group by introducing various strategies which gave each participant the opportunity to explore other options to try out in their daily lives when faced with conflicts.

What was significant was how each person became aware how they usually dealt with conflict as Christians. However, it became evident as the evening went on that we may need to reflect and try other strategies in order to live more fulfilling lives depending on the circumstances.

By the close of the evening most of us were looking at how we were going to try and make the coming week a more conflict resolution awareness week  with some of the musicians agreeing to get together to write some lyrics surrounding this topic.

The meeting ended on a positive and an up tempo note with everyone exchanging their views how much they enjoyed the evening over a  bring and share meal.

The young people left the meeting hoping the next forum would be organised soon.

Ponder These Things
ponder these things
During Advent, we've been exploring icons - their history, role in the early church and whether they provide us with a way of moving into deeper prayer and reflection.

Using Dr Rowan William's book, 'Ponder These Things' as background reading, the groups have explored ways of reading icons and using them as windows to understanding our full potential through Jesus Christ.

This deceptively small book is one you can return to and find new gems to ponder over. Here is a summary of the role icons have played and continue to play in the prayer life of the Church.
