| Palm Sunday by Year 1 shows Jesus arriving in Jerusalem. The people are celebrating the arrival of a new king - a messiah - and we can see palms being strewn in the street (a symbol of honour) and party food at the right of the picture. | ![]() |

| The Last Supper reminds us about Maundy Thursday when we remember how Jesus calls his disciples together, breaks bread, pours wine and shares this with them. This piece of work from Year 6 is a collage and gives the image a 3-dimensional effect. |

The betrayal. After the Last Supper, Jesus makes his way to the Garden of Gesthemane where he is betrayed by Judas. In this piece of work from Year 2 you can see Jesus to the right, being arrested while the disciples look on (left of image). |

Crowned with thorns. Year 3 chose one of the most difficult themes of Holy Week. Jesus is condemned to death and because he has been hailed as a King (see Palm Sunday above) the soldiers weave a crown of thorns for his head. There is no escaping the cruelty that humans can sometimes inflict on each other - even in today's world. |

The Crucifixion theme was developed by Year 5 and we can see the isolation and loneliness that Jesus experienced at this moment. But even under these circumstances his love for God remains. And finally his mission is completed with the words, 'Into your hands, Father, I commend my spirit'. |

The Resurrection. Holy Week started with Jesus entering Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and being welcomed as the chosen one - the King. By Good Friday the King is dead. But the story isn't quite finished. On Easter Sunday we recall how the women go to the tomb where Jesus is buried. they are shocked to find the stone is rolled away and the tomb empty. Jesus is risen and in this work from Year 4 we can see what this means - notice the flowers that surround the artwork - symbols of new life. The tomb is dark but all around it new life springs forth. |
