Sunday Evening Services

SUNDAY EVENING SERVICES:
PROVIDING ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF WORSHIP

Since the summer, we have been offering alternative forms of worship on a Sunday evening, either in one of our three churches or in Hornsey Parish Church. These have ranged from Evensong and Benediction to a meditative service in the Taizé style, and we hope to offer more alternatives in the weeks to come. This Sunday will be a service of Choral Evensong at Hornsey Parish Church.

The services will be held in the various churches on the Sundays of the month:

1st Sunday: Hornsey Parish Church
2nd Sunday: Holy Innocents
3rd Sunday: Holy Trinity
4th Sunday: St Paul’s

Our plan for these evening services to offer alternative forms of worship to the Sunday Morning Mass; they do not aim to be a replacement! They are being organised by the Pastoral Assistants, and we hope lots of other people might like to get involved as well. This might include helping with the planning, leading, singing or playing instruments.

At St Paul’s two weeks ago, a small choir came together to sing Evensong in Plainsong. This was a beautifully reflective service, and ended with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. You can listen to a recording of Psalm 119:33-48 which was taken during the service.

Last Sunday, many enjoyed a very different service using Taizé chants and few words. We gathered around the icon of the Hospitality of Abraham in darkness with only candlelight to meditate and pray.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please speak to Max or Damien. We encourage you to think about coming to our evening services over the coming months.
