Holy Trinity hosted a Advent activities morning for children on the Saturday before Advent Sunday. Several helpers and children took part by making the Advent wreath, providing some lovely singing and creating beautiful artwork and prayers. Some much-needed and delicious refreshments were also enjoyed to the full!

On Friday 22nd October we are holding a quiz evening in aid of the children’s charity My AFK in the church hall in Stapleton Hall Road. It starts at 7:30 PM, and we are asking those who come to bring their own picnic supper and something to drink. Crockery, cutlery and glasses will be provided. Admission £10.

Without exception there is a desire at Holy Trinity for caution and care for one another, especially as a number of people who attend church in person are ‘vulnerable’ and the rates of infection transmission are not encouraging at the moment.

Booking and Test and Trace
There is no need to book in advance to attend services, but we would still like to keep a record of attendance for test and trace purposes. The QR code for Holy Trinity remains available in the entrance lobby for those who want to sign in on their phones, and the paper signing in sheet for those who prefer it.

Masks, hand sanitising and social distancing
With Covid rates particularly high at the moment, we ask people to continue wearing masks whilst inside the church building, and to use the sanitising hand gel available at the entrance of the church and toilets. We will continue to leave certain benches in the church free in a way that allows for social distancing.

Singing

Hymn books will be available for those who would like to join in singing. If you would like to sing, please continue to wear your face covering while you do so, and very importantly we ask that those who sing sit in the front rows (either side) of the church. This will mean that those who are apprehensive about the resumption of congregational singing can remain at the back of the church.

Holy Communion
We will continue to offer Holy Communion in one kind (i.e. the consecrated bread only) at present, and maintain the practice of the clergy taking communion or offering a prayer of blessing to each person at their seat.

A good number of people attended our online Lent group this year. We looked at Sr. Wendy Becket’s book on prayer over five sessions, and discussed some of its insights. Sr. Wendy is a well-known authorty on art, and one member of our group, Anne Kozlowski-Hunt (herself a local artist) has writen about her experience of the group, and very kindly included one of her own paintings on prayer.

She says,

‘It has been very enjoyable to attend the zoom Lent meetings as we went through and discussed Sister Wendy’s book on prayer. It comes with no surprise when she uses art to express some of her thoughts of what the act of prayer is  and could be about. This act of prayer has no clear lines and is not black and white, and so we can  interpretate  prayer and of course art in many ways. Some see paintings and believe they understand what the artist is portraying and others are confused and need to walk away rather than respond to it. Thus the feelings a person has of a painting brings about different responses as does the act of prayer. This peice of work on paper I  produced using oil sticks shows  the  act of prayer but not the way to pray but, prehaps I hope shows the need to pray which can bring light, colour and strength to our lives.‘

Lent Appeal

The 2021 Diocese of London Lent Appeal supports three charities seeking to counter youth violence. If you would like to support this work please put any cash or cheques (payable to Holy Trinity PCC) in a separate envelope marked Lent Appeal and leave them in the collection plate at church or send them to the Vicarage.
